Youth Corpers Lifts UNICAL Staff School

Succor came the way of the staff and management of University of Calabar staff primary school recently when members of the National Youth Service Corps serving at the University of Calabar made some donation to the school as part of their Community Development Service (CDS) project to their place of primary assignment.The Corps members under the CDS group, University of Calabar Corps Members Association (UCA), donated a 16 set of white boards, cartons of white board marker pens and packs of dusters to the school recently at the school premises.Speaking on their choice of CDS projects to the school, the president of the CDS Group, Usang Godday said, theydonated white boards owing to the health hazards associated with chalk boards which is still being used by the school.He expressed the belief that the white boards will help the school to be at par with global standards of teaching as well as go a long way to adding value to the teaching process in the school.While inaugurating the Community Development Service projects embarked by the corps members, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Engineer Nkereke Ibangha heaped praises on the CDS group for distinguishing themselves in their service to their father land and the state.
“I’m most delighted. The Corps members have impacted positively on the life of the pupils of the school by this special donation. They’ve made NYSC proud and I for one proud too.” he stated.
The Chairman, Board of Governors of the School, Prof. James Utsalo appreciated the goodwill from the corps members describing it as a very laudable initiative that will add value to the school.
Head teacher of the school, Florence Helen also appreciated the Corps members for the gesture stressing that it is a dream come true as the school had long needed white boards to replace the outdated chalk boards.The donation ceremony witnessed sizzling song rendition from pupils of the school. Present at the event was the Community Development Service Head in the state, Chukwu Usuagwa, teachers in the school, pupils and corps members serving in UNICAL.
