The Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke has expressed
satisfaction with the success recorded by the Obudu International
Mountain Race, claiming it has grown to another level in the past ten
years.
Senator Imoke, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Efiok Cobham
said this while officially declaring open the 10th edition of the race
at the Obudu Cattle Ranch Resort in Obanliku Local Government Area. He
said the present administration has successfully sustained the event and
taken it to the next level.
Our correspondent who is covering the event reports that the opening
day featured a march past by athletes from the competing countries,
children and youth race as well as media race.
The children race was won by Presica Adie from Obanlikwu in the girls
category, Shovali Akem also from Obanliku, came second while Blessing
Akpakwu of the state sports commission finished third.
Sunday Imbush from Obanliku won the boys category of the children’s
race, Kenneth Akpaka also from Obanliku finished second while Festus
Imbush took the third position.
The male category of the media race was won by Odey Alenyor of N.T.A
Calabar, Victor Edet of Channels Television came second while Lanre
Rotimi of Leadership Newspaper finished third.
Tina Todo of the Guardian Newspaper won the women’s category with
Maria Olatunji of Silverbird Television coming second and Stella Bamawo
of the Nations Newspaper finishing third.
