After the tumultuous rally unequalled in the history of Cross River
state politics held on Thursday, at the reception of Goddy Jedy Agba,
the regime lacking in any ideas of a legitimate political response could
only do what it has done: cut off its nose to spite its’ face! It
sounds theatrical and comical.
Without any regards to decency or due process the Cross River State
chairman of the Party Ntufam John Okon woke up like a drowning man and
suspended Agba’s core men from the Party.
This is a clear confirmation that the regime has lost total control
of the party even as Governor Imoke is said to be going around Abuja
threatening to leave PDP!
Only God knows how many people he imagines will be willing to follow him to wherever he might want to go to.My joy though is that they are no longer in doubt that they cannot
match the Jedy Agba machine through any legitimate processes any longer.
The ground has been taken in Cross River just as the fabled contacts
in Abuja have been demystified. Playing the health card and shedding
crocodile tears remain few of the weapons left in the Governor’s
arsenal. What a pity for those who eat politics for breakfast, lunch and
dinner!
I want to reassure all GJA supporters to as usual remain calm and
steadfast because they ain’t seen nothing yet. It is mysterious what
actually the state is saying: on the one hand I am told Dem say na their
list dey Abuja.
On another hand they are suspending GJA men for “corrupting” the
Congress, an offence unknown to the PDP Constitution. Or are they angry
with the fact that Jedy Agba who they said was paralyzed suddenly turned
up dancing on stage looking healthier than those who pronounced him
unfit to run elections?
The powers at Abuja should get this message clearly: Governor Imoke
cannot deliver Cross River State any longer. He has lost the people. He
is hanging onto the last vestiges of power and coercion is a poor
instrument of politics! No one fears any consequences from his remaining
six months at all and as the days go by it will only get worse.
We remain unbowed by the so called suspension. It is illegal, it is
crude; it is uncivilized. It lacks any modicum of legitimacy. It is the
writhing motions of a dying regime.
We know that all they are trying to create is a forum to negotiate.
For an incumbent who arrogate so much power to himself I am happy that
Governor Imoke has once again been exposed for his inability to manage
anything. Always depending on begging some powers at Abuja to rescue
him! What a shame!
It is time for those who always rescue him to ask exactly what this
man brings to the table, if he must always be rescued in his own state!
What a master strategist!
