Non-governmental organisation, Centre, urged the Federal Government to make use of body video cam for police men assigned to monitor the general elections.

The organization gave the statement issued on Sunday in Warri by Mr Oghenejabor Ikimi, the Executive Director of the organisation.

The organization also called on the National Assembly to speedily amend the Electoral Act before the elections to accommodate the use of body cameras and other recording devices by the police.

It said that the development would help to check the excesses of the desperate politicians and their supporters who would indulge in electoral malpractices.

"The Federal Government should provide body cameras for all policemen at each of the polling units on election days to avoid electoral malpractices." "It is logical for these policemen as law enforcement officers to monitor proceedings in their polling units by scientific means as a way of ensuring a free and fair election." "The recordings from the polling units can also be used to determine electoral matters before election tribunals,''
the organisation suggested.
