Father Killed Daughter Lover, 22 Years Old Man at 8miles Calabar

Posted By: betadvicetips - 6:17 AM
A man named, Elewana Godwin of River Basin Authority, 8 Miles Calabar has been accused of shooting a 22 year old boy, Douglas Ojugbo on March 10, 2015, for allegedly sulking his daughter.
Some neigbours who were physically terrified and only managed to talk to CrossRiverWatch about the incident, after begging not to be named said, Mr. Elewana is a very dangerous man and that they have seen Douglas on a few occasions coming to check on his daughter and that they have seen the daughter accompanying Douglas when he is leaving.
One of the respondents said they are aware that "the girl's father had warned the small boy not to come near the daughter again. That is what we were made to understand but the two of them could not leave themselves and we hear that it is because of that that the man decided to take that horrible action.
"On that fateful evening, we saw the man running after the boy who was panting and running but the man caught up with him around the basin authority gate there and shot him with a gun. After shooting him, he dragged him into his car and drove off. All of us were running for our dear lives because like I said that man is dangerous and everyone around know him for that." CrossRiverWatch gathered that Mr. Elewana shot Douglas in the arm and later gave him another shot in the leg and allowed the boy to bleed to death in his car after bundling him into the car and drove the corpse to the Federal Housing Police station in Calabar.
Authorities in the Federal Housing Police Station in Calabar were also not willing to talk to CrossRiverWatch as the issue is said to have
shaken the police personnel in the station terribly. A senior police officer in the station told our reporter privately that they cannot say exactly what transpired between the DPO and Mr. Elewana when the DPO ordered that the corpse of 22 year old Douglas which was driven into the station by Mr. Elewana around to 5pm, be buried in a hurry by 8pm at Goldie Cemetry without any autopsy or investigation and without veryfying the parents of the deceased.
When a CrossRiverWatch source contacted the Divisional Police Officer, DPO of Federal Housing Police Station, Supol Mike Ezenwerem, he was audibly trembling on the phone and after mummbling a few words, ended the call.
It was on the March 12, 2015, after frantic search by parents and family members that Douglas parents got wind that their son had been shot and driven to the Federal Housing Police Station. On getting to the police station, the berieved parents were not only shocked to hear their son's corpse has been buried without their consent, the DPO also coerced the father into signing an undertaking not to let anybody hear what happened nor make any complaint to any authority whatsoever. But the bereaved father, Mr. Oga Augustine Ojugbo, a lawyer with Kanu G. Agabi & Associates, said he later found that absurd and has now petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 6, Calabar and the National Human Rights Commission to investigate the cause of his son's death and bring those who killed the son to justice.
In his petition written, a copy of which was also obtained by CrossRiverWatch, Barrister Ojugbo refuted claims that the son was having an amorphous relationship with Mr. Elewana's
daughter. He said the son had sold his mini laptop to Mr. Elewana's daughter who made part payment and it was the balance the son went to collect when he met his untimely death.
"The late Mr. Douglas Oga Augustine Ojugbo is my son, he is 22 years old. Sometimes this year, my son sold his used mini laptop to the daughter of Mr. Elewana Godwin who leaves with him at his River Basin Authority home. Mr. Elewana's daughter (name is unknown to me at the moment), made a part payment of the agreed sum leaving balance. "My son was about leaving when Mr. Elewana's daughter cornered him and asked him to come on the 10th of March and collect the balance of his money.
On that faithful day, 10th of March, 2015 my son went to Mr. Elewana's house hoping to see his daughter as they agreed but unfortunately he saw Mr. Elewana. "Mr. Elewana upon sighting Douglas, my son ran into his room and fetched his gun, late Douglas my son upon sighting Mr. Elewana with a gun took to his heels to save his life. However, Mr. Elewana having made up his mind to kill my son, pursued him until he caught up with late Douglas at the gate of Basin Authority, a distance of a kilometer from his house where he shot my son first on the leg as a result of which the late Douglas fell down and to accomplish his goal, Mr. Elewana shot him the second time on the arm to make sure that my son is dead.
"Furthermore, Mr. Elewana haven accomplished his goal bundled the body of the late Douglas into his car and took same to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO Federal Housing Police station. Mr. Elewana Godwin conspired with the DPO Federal Housing Police station, Calabar Supol Mike Ezenwenrem to get rid of the body of Mr. Douglas in order to conceal his death. In furtherance of this agreement the Divisional Police Officer Federal Housing police station and Mr. Elewana hurriedly went and buried the body of the late Douglas in the night of 10th March at the Goldie cemetery, Calabar. " Barrister Ojugbo added that the action of the DPO has cast aspersions on the integrity of the police officer and left one in utter astonishment as to what must have motivated the DPO to lean towards abating such heinous crime.
"It is my opinion that this callous act of murder and hurried burial cannot be swept under the carpet in other not to allow or encourage other blood thirsty vampires' feast on innocent souls.
"I strongly believe that the Commission is the
proper body I should complain to. I therefore call on the Commission to take whatever action within the confines of the law with the view of ensuring that justice is not only done but seen to be done to my family". Authorities in Zone six have also commendably commenced action on the matter and the AIG has ordered that the body of Douglas be exhumed and that has been done preparatory for an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
The police in Zone 6 were also not willing to talk to the Press on the matter. An officer told a CrossRiverWatch reporter that: "You people have al the details already nah. What else do you want us to say. We don't do our investigation in the Press. Higher police authorities have started investigation and we will continue with our work without the interference of the Press."
The DPO of the federal housing police station has also been ordered to produce Mr. Elewana who is now on the run, latest by Monday.
Further details will be brought to you as the
investigation continues.

Photo!!! TWO DIE, ONE ARRESTED IN SUPERMARKET ROBBERY AT IKOT EFFA AREA CALABAR......

Posted By: betadvicetips - 1:29 PM
One armed robbery suspect was on Saturday shot dead after a gun duel with the police during a robbery operation that took place in a supermarket at the Ikot Effa area of Calabar, Cross River State.
Two robbery suspects were also arrested in the process while four others were said to have escaped. One of the arrested suspects, was said to have later died.
PUNCH Metro learnt on Sunday that the police acted on distress calls by the neighbours of the owner of the supermarket.
It was learnt that items recovered from the suspects included a locally-made pistol and 42 rounds of ammunition, machetes, mobile phones, electronic appliances and other valuables.
Narrating the incident, which occurred at about 8.30am on Ikot Effa Road, the supermarket owner, Mr. Akpan Ekerette, said he had initially thought the gunmen were customers who had come to buy provisions, but was shocked when two of them walked up to him at the counter and demanded all the money in his possession.
He said, "At first I didn't know they were armed robbers because they were about five that came into the store, while others stood outside. Some were also in a red Audi saloon car. One of the suspects, who was eventually killed, hit me on the head with his gun and ordered me to bring money. "I directed him to my drawer where I had close to N500, 000, including cash from the day's sales. That was when I started screaming and my neighbours alerted the police who came in less than five minutes and the armed robbers started shooting, during the exchange of fire they apprehended two of them while others escaped."
Ekerette said the attack would be the second time in 2015 that armed men would be visiting his supermarket.
"This is the second time they are attacking me this year. If not that the police responded on time I wonder what would have happened to me because apart from the money they took, they were also packing items from my shop including beverages and drinks," he said.
It was learnt from the police that one of the two robbery suspects that were apprehended died at about 12am following injuries from the duel and his corpse had yet to be taken to the mortuary as at the time of filing this report.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public
Relations Officer, Mr. Hogan Bassey, said members of the public played critical role in the success of the operation by promptly informing the police while the incident was ongoing.
Bassey said, "It was the timely tip-off that made it possible for us to get to the scene promptly. If this trend is maintained, the police will definitely rid the state of criminals. These armed robbers are not invincible. Useful information can go a long way in foiling their plans."

(PHOTO) POLICE ARRESTS 27-YEAR-OLD SERIAL RAPIST IN CALABAR

Posted By: betadvicetips - 1:59 AM

Nemesis, caught up with a 27-year-old serial rapist, Stephen Nyong, a native of Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, who resides at 18b, Inyang Edem Street, Mount Zion, Calabar, as he was arrested by youths of the community.

Vanguard gathered that Stephen and his gang, who have been on rampage terrorizing women in the neighbourhood for about a decade, intensified their nefarious activities by visiting almost every compound each night since the beginning of this year, where they rape women and girls.

According to the village head of Ndom Ndang, Muri Okon Effiong, who spoke with Vanguard, the gang has been operating in his domain for a very long time. He said: “As the custodian of this place, the chief and I took a decision to deal with them and we have arrested one.
“He and other gang members have raped over 60 girls. He alone had defiled over 20 girls this 2015. He has been chased in more than three compounds but was not caught. His sins have caught up with him.”
Chief Effiong revealed that Edem doesn’t only rape the girls but also makes sure he stabs and injures them as well as cart away any valuable within reach.
“It was last Sunday night’s attack that got the youths in the area enraged and they decided to lay siege for him and their kingpin on our instruction. Unfortunately, the leader of the gang, who is now at large, is responsible for grooming them over the years,” the monarch said.
According to a resident, Mrs Agnes Ubong, who also spoke with Vanguard, the suspect was a brutal rapist who showed no mercy to any of his victims as he stabbed them with his dagger after defiling them.
“After defiling my neighbour, Mary and her roommate, he stabbed both of them on the head and he also took their phones and N8,000 from them. They were both taken to the hospital.

2015 Polls: INEC Distributes Election Materials To Nine Local Government Areas

Posted By: betadvicetips - 5:07 AM

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in Cross River State, Dr Sylvester Okey Ezeani says they have started the distribution of non-sensitive election materials in the state, howthat, as at yesterday, Tuesday, nine (9) Local Governments have already received.
Dr Ezeani made this known in the early hours of yesterday when he entertained a team of journalist in his office.
According to him, the non-sensitive materials including ballot boxes are being distributed this early in the state to overcome lapses as witnessed in previous elections where materials arrive late; “We have started distributing non-sensitive materials to the local government areas. As I speak, we have sent those materials to about nine local government areas. As you know, the terrain of the state is such that we need to start the distribution early to avoid lapses.”
The Local Governments where the materials are already served are Calabar Municipality, Calabar South, Akpabuyo, Bakassi Akamkpa, Biase, Yakurr, Abi and Obubra.
Speaking on his preparation for next week’s exercise, Dr Ezeani said his office has received about 3,057 card readers which have been upgraded and configured to ensure that the commission does not have any reason to fail.
He begged Cross Riverians who are yet to collect their voter’s cards to please collect them; saying that they are still over 200,000 uncollected cards in his possession.
The REC also commented on the current business of vote’s cards wholeselling and retailing in the state: “You are only disenfranchising people by buying their PVCs, because you cannot use them for anything. It is worthless and a waste of money. I advise people to stop selling their PVCs because nothing can be done to circumvent this process,” he said.

Cross River Receives 1,500 Trucks Of Kerosene From NNPC

Posted By: betadvicetips - 5:03 AM

It has been disclosed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has released 1,500 trucks of kerosene for distribution to the public.
Media Officer of the Port Harcourt Refinery Petroleum Company Limited, Mr. Ikenna Okpani, disclosed this on Wednesday during the flag-off of the ‘kero-correct’ campaign in Calabar, Cross River State.
Leading the team of the kero-correct campaign in the state, Okpani said the campaign was to ensure the availability of kerosene at the government approved price of N50.00 per litre.
Okpani said: “Approximately, we have released 1,500 trucs (40, 000 litres per truck) of kerosene for the purpose of this campaign which will last for three months.
“These trucks of kerosene would be distributed to the 37 NNPC mega stations, 12 floating mega stations and 524 NNPC affiliate stations across the country over the period of three months.”
He said the campaign was an initiative of the federal government to get kerosene to consumers at government approved price of N50.00 per litre.
“We have discovered over time that a lot of Nigerians are not getting this product at the approved price across the country. “And the federal government, in its wisdom through the NNPC, has decided to bring this product to consumers in the country,” Okpani said.
He said his team has the mandate of enforcing certain regulations that would ensure availability of the products to every consumer at all selling points. Speaking on the mode for distribution Okpani said:
“Consumers are to queue for the products at every station; there are also restricted from buying above 25 litres of the products at a time.
